Punjab Bar Council Suspends Licenses of 1,133 Lawyers Over Failure to Get Degrees Verified by HEC

Lahore (HRNW): The Punjab Bar Council has immediately suspended the licenses of 1,133 lawyers who failed to get their educational degrees verified by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

According to the Punjab Bar Council, under the decision of the General House, these lawyers were given a deadline until July 15, 2026 to submit their verified degrees. However, despite the expiry of the deadline, they failed to provide the required verification documents.

The Bar Council stated that the names of these lawyers are now being removed from the Punjab Bar Council roll, and they will no longer be allowed to continue legal practice. Only the 29 lawyers who completed their degree verification within the given timeframe will be able to continue providing legal services.

The council further stated that proceedings regarding 32 lawyers associated with Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai University are also ongoing.

According to the Punjab Bar Council, lawyers seeking restoration of their licenses will have to obtain degree verification from HEC and then approach the Executive Committee of the Punjab Bar Council.

The council warned that strict legal action will be taken if any lawyer submits fake certificates or fraudulent documents.

The Punjab Bar Council said the action is being taken in strict compliance with the decisions of its General House meetings held on April 4, 2026, and June 13, 2026, with the aim of ensuring transparency and maintaining professional standards in the legal profession.

The licenses of the 29 lawyers who submitted their verified degrees on time remain active, and they are permitted to continue their legal practice.
