Ink Thrown at Protest Leader as Jantar Mantar Demonstration Intensifies

New Delhi (HRNW)- An unexpected incident occurred during the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in the Indian capital, New Delhi, when a woman suddenly threw ink at Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijit Deepke.

The incident caused temporary chaos at the protest site and came just hours after social activist Sonam Wangchuck was shifted to a hospital following a deterioration in his health after a prolonged hunger strike.

A video circulating on social media shows Abhijit Deepke addressing supporters when a woman approached and threw ink at him. The ink also splashed onto several people standing on the stage. Protesters quickly restrained the woman, seized the ink bottle, and escorted her away from the stage.

According to Delhi Police, the woman has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway. Authorities said her identity and motive have not yet been confirmed.

The protest at Jantar Mantar, which opposes alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination and student deaths linked to the issue, has now entered its third week. During the same demonstration, 59-year-old social activist Sonam Wangchuck was hospitalized after nearly 20 days of hunger strike.

Hospital officials said Wangchuck is suffering from severe physical weakness, dehydration, and low potassium levels. Although doctors recommended intravenous fluids, oral rehydration solutions, and medication, he reportedly declined treatment while remaining under continuous medical observation.

Delhi Police stated that Wangchuck was transferred to the hospital on the directions of the Delhi High Court and based on medical advice. Officials added that while some protesters attempted to resist the move, the operation was completed peacefully.

Meanwhile, Abhijit Deepke accused the police of using force against peaceful demonstrators, claiming he was briefly detained and mistreated during the protest. He also called for nationwide demonstrations against the alleged police action.

Following Wangchuck’s hospitalization, Deepke announced that he had begun an indefinite hunger strike in solidarity with the ongoing protest.
