Appellate Bench Commutes Death Sentence to Life Imprisonment in Sajawal Murder Case

SAJAWAL/KARACHI (HRNW): An appellate bench has partially accepted an appeal filed against a death sentence and fine in a murder case, commuting the capital punishment to life imprisonment.

According to judicial records, the appellant, Ghulam Hyder, had been convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Niaz Palejo over a monetary dispute. The prosecution stated that the incident took place on February 22, 2023, within the jurisdictional limits of the Bannu Police Station in District Sajawal.

During the proceedings, the court was informed that the accused, Ghulam Hyder, was unable to afford a private legal counsel due to a lack of financial resources. Consequently, he was provided with legal representation at the state’s expense.

After a detailed review of the case records, evidence, and arguments from both sides, the appellate bench delivered its verdict, converting the death penalty into life imprisonment while maintaining other legal penalties. Following the court’s decision, further legal proceedings will continue in accordance with the relevant laws.
