KARACHI (HRNW): A massive corruption scandal has surfaced within the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) District Central, where officials are allegedly allowing the construction of illegal high-rise plazas in Liaquatabad Town in exchange for heavy bribes, bypassing all safety regulations and building codes.
According to local reports and whistleblowers, the Director, Deputy Director, and Building Inspector (identified as Lataif Mirza) of District Central are operating under a “System” that provides a protective umbrella to the builder mafia. Under this alleged patronage, residential plots as small as 80 to 90 square yards are being transformed into 7 to 8-story “luxury” plazas. These structures are being built without any technical NOCs or structural stability certificates, posing a severe threat to the lives of future residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
Critics claim that the SBCA officials have turned a blind eye to these violations, adopting a “collect wealth and allow work” policy. The narrow streets of Liaquatabad are being congested with these illegal skyscrapers, which could lead to a catastrophic building collapse or urban disaster if not addressed immediately. Despite the gravity of the situation, the local SBCA administration appears untouchable, leaving the public feeling helpless against the entrenched “System.”
Concerned citizens and activists have issued an urgent appeal to the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Minister for Local Government, Commissioner Karachi, Chairman Anti-Corruption, and the Deputy Commissioner Central to take immediate notice. They have demanded a high-level inquiry into the assets of the involved SBCA officials and a crackdown on the illegal buildings in Liaquatabad to prevent a major tragedy before it is too late.
