The UN General Assembly has advanced a significant institutional reform under the Secretary-General’s UN80 Initiative, endorsing the merger of the UN System Staff College and the UN Institute for Training and Research.
According to the Secretary-General’s office, the two institutions will be replaced by a new entity, the UN Institute for Capability and Learning Innovation (UNICLI).
The move is part of a broader effort to consolidate UN training and research capacities and make the organization more efficient. The General Assembly discussed progress on the UN80 Initiative during an informal plenary meeting on 3 September.
The reform push comes as the United Nations prepares for the opening of the 81st General Assembly session, placing institutional efficiency and modernization high on the international agenda.
