The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is expanding its emergency response in Nepal as remote communities affected by severe flooding continue to face difficulties accessing food and essential supplies.
WFP reported on 4 September that it was scaling up operations while communities remained isolated. The agency has been moving food assistance into hard-to-reach areas as humanitarian teams assess needs and work to restore access.
The Nepal response has become one of the UN system’s major current disaster operations in South Asia, with UNICEF and WFP among the agencies delivering emergency assistance to affected families.
The continuing isolation of some communities highlights the logistical challenges facing relief agencies after the floods, particularly in mountainous and difficult-to-access areas.
