Lahore (HRNW)- Twenty-five Pakistani nationals released from Indian jails have returned home through the Wagah-Attari border, with officials from the Pakistan High Commission in India facilitating their repatriation.
According to HRNW News, several returning citizens became emotional after crossing the border and setting foot on Pakistani soil. Some also prostrated in gratitude upon reaching home.
Security officials said the returning nationals will undergo routine questioning and necessary procedures before being handed over to their families. Pakistani High Commission officials were present at the border to facilitate their return.
The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi said efforts would continue to secure the release and repatriation of other Pakistani nationals detained in Indian jails.
According to the prisoner lists exchanged by Pakistan and India on July 1, 2026, India reported 439 Pakistani or presumed Pakistani prisoners, including 386 civilians and 53 fishermen. Pakistan provided a list of 250 Indian or presumed Indian prisoners, including 52 civilians and 198 fishermen.
Under the Consular Access Agreement between the two countries, Pakistan and India exchange prisoner lists twice a year on January 1 and July 1.
