Pakistan’s Early Debt Repayments Near Rs6 Trillion Amid Fiscal Discipline

Islamabad (HRNW)- Pakistan’s early debt repayments have reached nearly Rs6,000 billion, with the government describing the development as a sign of improved fiscal discipline and economic stability.

According to Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Shahzad, Pakistan has so far repaid approximately Rs5,920 billion in debt ahead of schedule. The country has also surpassed the previous record of Rs1,133 billion in early repayments recorded in August 2025.

During fiscal year 2025/26, around Rs2,900 billion was repaid ahead of schedule, while another Rs1,200 billion has been repaid early during fiscal year 2026/27 so far.

Khurram Shahzad said early debt repayments would help reduce the overall debt burden and ease pressure from large repayment obligations in the coming years. He added that Pakistan’s debt management strategy is increasingly focused on strengthening the government’s overall fiscal position rather than simply meeting scheduled payments.
