Islamabad (HRNW)- A shortage of 2,108 doctors, nurses and paramedical staff has been reported across seven federal government hospitals, with thousands of approved positions remaining vacant.
According to details, the hospitals have a combined approved strength of 5,602 medical staff, but only 3,494 doctors, nurses and paramedics are currently working. No hospital, including the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), has its full approved staff complement.
PIMS, which recently faced a major tragedy, has 2,453 approved positions, but only 1,419 medical staff are working, leaving a shortage of 1,034 personnel.
The Federal Government Polyclinic has 1,132 approved posts, of which 893 are filled, leaving 239 vacancies. NIRM has 161 approved positions with 132 staff working, resulting in a shortage of 29.
At Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore, 1,216 posts are reportedly vacant, while 793 medical staff are currently working, creating a shortage of 423 personnel.
The Federal General Hospital Islamabad has 212 approved positions, with 165 staff members currently working, leaving 47 vacancies. The District Health Department has 125 vacancies, while the Federal Government TB Centre in Rawalpindi has 11 vacant positions.
The figures highlight significant staffing gaps across federal healthcare facilities, including PIMS, where adequate medical staffing has become a particularly important concern following the recent tragedy.
