New York (HRNW)- Protesters gathered outside Madison Square Garden in New York, raising slogans against the Indian government and Hindu nationalist policies and expressing concerns over the alleged treatment of Sikhs, Muslims and Christians in India.
During the demonstration, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, general counsel of the pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice, accused the RSS and BJP leadership of pursuing policies aimed at transforming India into a “Hindu Rashtra.”
Pannun referred to historical and recent incidents, including the 1984 Golden Temple operation, the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition and violence involving Christians in Manipur. He also alleged that Indian state institutions are being used against minority communities.
The protesters called attention to what they described as ongoing human-rights concerns and discrimination in India.
