Karachi (HRNW) – A hearing regarding the spread of HIV/AIDS among young children at Kulsum Bai Valika Social Security Hospital was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Ombudsman Muhammad Sohail Rajput, where administrative measures, healthcare facilities, and support for affected families were reviewed.
The hearing was attended by Sindh Labour Secretary Sajid Jamal Abro, SESSI Commissioner Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro, Senior Medical Adviser, Focal Person Dr. Saadat, Medical Superintendent Dr. Ghiyasuddin, and parents of affected children.
During the hearing, it was revealed that 16 new children were diagnosed with HIV, while concerns remain that additional cases may emerge.
Parents of affected children raised complaints regarding alleged lack of cooperation from the hospital administration, shortage of medicines, administrative issues, and delays in providing outstanding treatment-related financial support.
Sindh Ombudsman Muhammad Sohail Rajput expressed concern over the performance of hospital staff and stated that trained personnel and professionals from the public health sector could be appointed for senior positions according to requirements.
He directed authorities to explore the possibility of deputing doctors from the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital for a period of six months to strengthen medical services. He also instructed that medicines, dietary supplements, and other essential supplies should be ensured without delay.
The Sindh Ombudsman stated that, apparently, financial issues of the hospital contributed to the circumstances leading to the spread of HIV among children and directed authorities to identify a reputable audit firm within two weeks to conduct an audit of the hospital’s financial matters.
He further issued directions regarding the rehabilitation of affected families, including support for labourers who lost employment due to caring for their children, compensation for children who passed away, and rehabilitation measures for children living with the disease.
Muhammad Sohail Rajput ordered the appointment of psychologists for the mental and emotional rehabilitation of affected children and families. He also directed authorities to launch awareness campaigns through media and social media regarding HIV treatment, diagnosis, and prevention.
The Ombudsman further instructed that an immediate help desk be established near the hospital’s entrance to provide guidance and assistance to affected families.
The hearing was adjourned for two weeks.

Experts emphasize that people living with HIV require not only medical care but also social and psychological support to ensure dignity and inclusion.
