Karachi (HRNW) – The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) at the City Court heard the interim bail petitions of Union President Tanveer Pasta and other accused persons in the Gul Plaza fire tragedy case.
During the hearing, the investigation officer requested additional time from the court to submit the final charge sheet. The investigation officer informed the court that the final challan had not yet been submitted and that further time would be sought from the magistrate for completion of the process.
The court asked the investigation officer how much additional time would be required. In response, the officer stated that he would request another week from the magistrate.
The court adjourned the hearing until August 4 and directed the investigation officer to appear with a complete report at the next hearing.
The court observed that merely submitting a progress report would not be sufficient and instructed the investigation team to provide detailed findings. The court also advised officials to issue statements to the media responsibly, stating that careless statements could create a negative public perception regarding the investigation.
The court further questioned whether any evidence had been collected against the nominated accused persons.
Prosecutor Rana Khaliq informed the court that evidence had emerged regarding the allegation that the union president had switched off the electricity supply of the plaza.
Meanwhile, defence lawyer Sheikh Javed Mir argued that turning off electricity after a fire incident is part of standard safety procedures (SOPs). He further stated that reports by the Commissioner and Magistrate had also identified certain institutions as responsible for the incident.
