Construction Controversy Near Hill Park; Mayor Murtaza Wahab Writes Letter to Federal Government

Karachi (HRNW): Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has written a formal letter to the Federal Government regarding the controversial construction on a plot adjacent to Hill Park, demanding a comprehensive investigation to protect public interests and municipal assets.

Discrepancy in Master Plan and Plot Size

In his letter addressed to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Works, Mayor Murtaza Wahab requested the complete record of Plot No. 39-G-4.

  • Missing from Original Layout: The Mayor highlighted that Plot No. 39-G-4 does not exist in the original, approved 1959 PECHS Master Plan.

  • Size Discrepancy: Initial investigations reveal that the 500-square-yard plot at the disputed site is not shown in the originally approved layout. According to the original master plan, only a residual piece of land measuring approximately 200 square yards actually exists at that specific location.

  • Demanding Clarification: Mayor Murtaza Wahab questioned the legal basis on which the 500-square-yard plot was established and demanded an official clarification from the relevant authorities.

Demand for Complete Title and Land Records

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has demanded the immediate provision of all factual and documentary evidence regarding the disputed land, including:

  • All title documents, allotment orders, lease documents, and mutation records.

  • The original and revised layout plans, along with records of any subsequent modifications.

  • Plot ownership details, allotment history, survey specifications, and demarcation proceedings.

  • Comprehensive details regarding any regularization, exchange, amalgamation, subdivision, or reconstitution of the land.

Protection of Public Property and Amenity Plots

Mayor Murtaza Wahab has sought clarification on whether the land adjacent to Hill Park was originally part of public property. He requested specific details concerning encroachments on Hill Park, open spaces, amenity plots, or government-owned land.

The Mayor asserted that a thorough investigation into the controversial plot is critical for safeguarding civic assets. He concluded that KMC reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings in accordance with the law to protect municipal assets and public amenities.
