Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s Address in Dir Bala: Masses Deceived by Slogans and Flags for 79 Years

DIR BALA (HRNW): The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, delivered a scathing critique of the country’s political and economic system while addressing a public gathering in the Dir Bala district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stated that for the past 79 years, the public has been deceived through mere slogans and flags, asserting that powerful classes must now operate strictly according to the Constitution. Highlighting economic realities, he noted that an unjust petroleum levy of 160 PKR is being collected, the entire burden of which falls on the poor. He revealed that motorcycle users alone pay 550 billion PKR in taxes annually, while the salaried class contributes 650 billion PKR in yearly taxes. He demanded that the price of petrol be immediately fixed at 250 PKR per liter to provide relief to the masses.

The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami also targeted the performance of both federal and provincial governments, stating that “good governance” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains limited to slogans. He remarked that despite one party being in power for 14 years, the people are still deprived of health, education, and basic rights. He termed the decision to outsource government schools as clear evidence of the rulers’ incompetence and expressed grave concern over the federal government’s debt policy, noting that the national debt has surged from 55 trillion PKR to 85 trillion PKR in just four years, with rulers borrowing an additional 20 billion PKR daily. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman further added that the bureaucracy still operates under a colonial-era slave system, making the pursuit of justice a distant dream for the poor.
