Islamabad (HRNW)- Reports indicate that the arrest of Pakistani beggars has become a frequent occurrence in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai). Investigations reveal a lucrative but illegal “begging industry,” where some individuals reportedly earn between 15,000 to 25,000 PKR per hour in Gulf countries through professional solicitation.
In a recent high-profile case, Dubai Police apprehended a Pakistani national who had managed to collect 1 million PKR (approx. 13,000 AED) in just three days. Similarly, numerous individuals earning millions through begging have been detained and deported from Saudi Arabia.
Official figures for the current month show a total of 127 individuals arrested for begging across these regions, the majority of whom are of Pakistani origin. These individuals often travel on Umrah or visit visas specifically to engage in organized begging, a practice that has prompted Gulf authorities to tighten visa scrutiny and issue warnings to the Pakistani government regarding the misuse of travel documents.
