Islamabad (HRNW)- Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Ambassador Olara Otunnu, a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General, during his visit to the federal capital. He was accompanied by Special Envoy of the President of Uganda and former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch also attended the meeting.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, stressing the importance of respect for international law and international agreements. He said Pakistan would continue to support the multilateral system and an effective role for the United Nations in addressing global challenges.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to further strengthen the UN and multilateral cooperation, saying the next UN Secretary-General should give balanced attention to the organization’s three fundamental pillars: peace and security, development, and human rights.
Ambassador Olara Otunnu expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to the multilateral system and appreciated the country’s leadership and role in international peace and security efforts.
