Islamabad (HRNW)- An unusual and light-hearted exchange took place in the Federal Constitutional Court during the hearing of a case involving Shamim Bibi, drawing smiles in the courtroom.
According to reports, court staff called out the Shamim Bibi case, after which a villager stepped up to the rostrum. Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi asked the man why he had come forward, to which the citizen replied in Punjabi that Shamim Bibi was his wife’s name.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi then pointed out that, according to the court file, Shamim Bibi was listed as a widow, and asked the man how she could be his wife.
The citizen responded that Shamim was indeed his wife’s name. Justice Rizvi then asked when he had been married, but the man replied that he could not remember the exact date and only recalled that the marriage had taken place 20 to 25 years ago.
With a smile, Justice Rizvi asked which government was in power at the time of his marriage. The citizen replied that he was a villager and did not know anything about the government of that time.
The court then clarified that the case being heard was not related to him and instructed the man to return to his seat.
