Tehran (HRNW)- Iranian media has claimed that Iranian forces successfully foiled an alleged attempt by the United States to seize an Iranian merchant ship in the Gulf of Oman.
According to the Mehr News Agency, US forces reportedly opened fire on the vessel in an effort to force it back toward Iranian waters, though the name of the ship was not disclosed in the report.
The statement added that the IRGC Navy responded swiftly, providing support to the ship, after which US forces were forced to retreat from the Area.
The claim comes amid conflicting statements, as former US President Donald Trump said that an Iranian cargo ship named Tosca attempted to cross a US naval blockade and was taken into custody by the US Navy in the Strait of Hormuz.
The differing accounts highlight rising tensions and uncertainty in the strategically vital maritime region.
