London (HRNW)- Former British ambassador Jeremy Greenstock has claimed that former Prime Minister Tony Blair pressured the Palestinian Authority to remove the name “Palestine” from educational textbooks and replace it with the Israeli term “Samaria.”
According to Middle East Eye, Greenstock made the claim during an interview on the David Hirst Podcast, saying Blair sought to strengthen the Palestinian Authority’s position as a potential partner in efforts to reach an agreement with Israel over ending the Gaza war.
Greenstock claimed that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas rejected the alleged demand. He said the reported attempt to influence Palestinian educational curricula raised questions about the principles guiding the proposed Board of Peace.
However, Tony Blair’s spokesperson strongly denied the allegation, describing the claim as “completely false and fabricated” and saying the former prime minister never made such a demand.
The conflicting statements have left the allegation disputed, with Greenstock maintaining his account while Blair’s spokesperson firmly rejects it.
