Lahore (HRNW)- The Lahore High Court has accepted a petition challenging the implementation of the slab system in electricity billing for regular hearing.

During the proceedings, the court sought responses from NEPRA and other relevant parties, directing them to clarify under which law the slab system was implemented.

Justice Khalid Ishaq conducted the initial hearing on the petition filed by Ashba Kamran, in which NEPRA and other concerned institutions have been named as respondents.

The petition argues that the slab system in electricity bills is against the Constitution and law. It states that electricity consumption up to 200 units falls under the protected category, but under the slab system, bills are being significantly increased.

The petitioner further contends that these inflated bills are imposed as a form of penalty for up to six months. It is also stated that NEPRA is a regulatory authority and not a punitive body, and that the slab system contradicts several provisions of the NEPRA Act.

The petition has requested the court to declare the slab system in electricity billing null and void.
