Two Pakistani Candidates Shortlisted for Astronaut Training Under Pakistan-China Space Cooperation

Islamabad (HRNW)- SPARC has crossed another important milestone in Pakistan’s human spaceflight program. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the second phase of astronaut selection has been successfully completed and two Pakistani candidates have been shortlisted after initial screening.

The ISPR said that the shortlisted candidates have completed comprehensive medical and psychological tests in China and these candidates will undergo astronaut training at the China Astronaut Center.

After the training, one candidate will be selected for the space mission in October and the other in November. A bilateral ‘Astronaut Cooperation Agreement’ was signed between Pakistan and China in February 2025.

According to the ISPR, this historic agreement was reached under the leadership and support of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, which made Pakistan’s participation in human spaceflight possible.

China has chosen Pakistan as its first foreign partner in its space program, a testament to the strong cooperation between the two countries and China’s support.
