Tehran (HRNW)- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has called on the United Nations and the Security Council to take action against the latest economic sanctions imposed by the United States, accusing Washington of violating the UN Charter.
According to Iranian news agency IRNA, Araqchi sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly objecting to increased US economic pressure on Iran and Washington’s efforts to prevent other countries from trading or cooperating with Tehran.
Araqchi described the US measures as illegal, unilateral and coercive, arguing that no country should use its economic or political power to pressure other states. He urged the UN and Security Council to condemn the measures and uphold Iran’s sovereignty and the principle of equal rights among nations.
The Iranian foreign minister also highlighted what he described as humanitarian and human rights consequences of the sanctions, calling for a formal assessment of their impact. He further urged consideration of compensation or reparations for losses allegedly suffered by Iran.
