Karachi (HRNW): Speaking to the media after the hearing of the judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case, lawyer Jibran Nasir condemned the FIR registered by Ferozabad Police against young people who had been protesting to demand justice for Mir Raza.
Nasir said that for the past 29 days, young citizens have been standing for hours demanding justice for Mir Raza and the supremacy of law, but these same young people have now allegedly been targeted through criminal cases.
He said these young protesters have become like Mir Raza himself for his grieving parents and expressed solidarity with them.
Nasir also paid tribute to the young lawyers providing legal assistance and securing bail for the protesters.
He said the protests demanding justice for Mir Raza would continue.
No Arrests After 30 Days
Jibran Nasir said that 30 days have passed, yet the alleged perpetrators in the Mir Raza case have not been apprehended.
He said the focus should remain on identifying and arresting those responsible for Mir Raza’s death and bringing the case to its legal conclusion.
Judicial Commission Proceedings Open to Public
Nasir said Justice Umar Sial had clarified that proceedings of the judicial commission would remain open to the public to ensure transparency.
He said the commission had also clarified that its role was not to conduct the criminal investigation but to undertake fact-finding.
According to Nasir, the commission made it clear that arresting the alleged killers and submitting the charge sheet is the responsibility of the police.
