Washington (HRNW)- The United States has designated Britain-based Palestine Action as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization and imposed sanctions on the group, alleging that it supports acts of terrorism.
The decision comes after the United Kingdom banned Palestine Action, which was established in 2020 and has carried out actions targeting Israeli-affiliated defense companies in Britain, including Elbit Systems. The group and its supporters reject the terrorist designation, describing its activities as protests against Israel’s military industry and in support of Palestinians.
The US also designated Italy-based Autistici/Inventati and imposed sanctions on Masar Badil, alleging links to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which Washington has already designated as a terrorist organization.
US officials described the groups as violent organizations and said Washington would use its economic powers against them. Palestine Action co-founder Huda Amouri, meanwhile, criticized the designation, saying it raises concerns over freedom of expression and civil liberties.
The US and UK actions have sparked renewed debate over the balance between national security measures and the rights to political protest and expression.
