Karachi (HRNW) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Assembly Member Sajjad Ali Soomro has criticized the Sindh government and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), alleging that residents of Lyari have been deprived of basic facilities including clean water, healthcare, sanitation, and security over the past eighteen years.
In a statement, Sajjad Ali Soomro alleged that children and women in Lyari are suffering from various diseases due to contaminated water, while the supply of clean drinking water and the sewerage system remain severely affected.
The PTI lawmaker claimed that despite years of political representation, there has been no significant improvement in the living conditions of the people of Lyari. He criticized political representatives, alleging that some individuals gain personal benefits after coming into power while public issues remain unresolved.
He stated that the people of Lyari do not need symbolic projects or celebrations but require clean drinking water, quality healthcare facilities, a permanent solution to sewerage problems, and improved law and order.
Sajjad Ali Soomro further alleged that the alleged presence of builder, gambling, and gutka networks in Lyari and the lack of effective action against such elements remain major concerns. He said it is the government’s responsibility to protect citizens from such activities.
The PTI leader said that his party would continue raising its voice for the basic rights of Lyari residents and would work for improved water supply, healthcare, sanitation, security, and elimination of corruption.
From a human rights perspective, access to clean water, healthcare, a safe environment, and essential civic services are recognized as important components of citizens’ basic rights.
