KARACHI (HRNW): A court has ruled in favor of a man who was severely injured in a 1992 traffic accident on Korangi Road, ordering the Sindh government and the driver of a government-owned bus to jointly pay him Rs100 million (Rs10 crore) in compensation.
According to the plaintiff’s counsel, Faraz Faheem Advocate, the victim, Kishan Lal, suffered severe injuries after being hit by a speeding government bus on Korangi Road in 1992. The accident left him permanently disabled.
The court observed that the evidence on record established that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the bus driver. Since the vehicle involved was a government-operated bus, the Sindh government was also held liable for the damages.
In its judgment, the court noted that the accident resulted in the loss of the plaintiff’s leg, causing permanent physical disability. The ruling stated that the injuries not only deprived him of his earning capacity but also severely affected his social life.
The court further held that speeding and driving on the wrong side of a public road constituted clear negligence and recklessness, for which both the state and the driver must be held accountable.
The judgment directs the Sindh government and the bus driver to pay the compensation to Kishan Lal within three months.
According to the plaintiff’s lawyer, the case was transferred to the civil court following the Civil Courts (Amendment) Act, 2025, and the final judgment was delivered by the Senior Civil Judge (South).
