US Launches New Strikes on Iran; Explosions Rock Southern Coastal Areas Amid Rising Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Tehran (HRNW)- Several explosions have been heard in Iran’s southern coastal areas, while the US military has confirmed new operations against Iran, saying that the attacks are aimed at reducing the risks to international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian media, explosions were heard in Sark and Bandar Abbas, while explosions have also been reported near Konark and Chabahar. Air defense systems in these areas are countering the attacks.

According to a foreign news agency, electricity was cut off after the explosions in Chabahar, while Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB said that eight explosions were heard in the southern coastal city, resulting in the activation of the air defense system.

The US military says the strikes were carried out to weaken Iranian capabilities that threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to US officials, the operation targeted air defense systems, coastal radars, anti-ship missile installations and other military targets.

The statement issued by the US Central Command said that the United States is holding Iran accountable for the recent unprovoked aggression against commercial vessels and their civilian crews traveling through an internationally significant waterway.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, the US military attack targeted facilities at Iranshahr Airport in southeastern Iran, killing a firefighter on duty.

Iran has described the US action as aggression and has indicated a strong response, raising concerns about a further escalation of tensions in the region.
