US Sanctions Leave 63 Million Barrels of Iranian Oil Stranded at Sea, Exports Under Pressure

Washington (HRNW)- After the US limited the concessions granted to Iran under sanctions on oil sales, about 63 million barrels of Iranian crude oil are reportedly stranded at sea.

According to the American magazine Bloomberg, vessel tracking data shows that tankers carrying millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil are either in transit or anchored at various locations from the Persian Gulf to the Strait of Malacca, leaving their shipments uncertain.

The report states that if regional tensions continue and the US further tightens its naval blockade against Iran, nearly 50 million barrels of crude oil and refined petroleum products may be prevented from reaching international markets.

It is worth noting that the US recently reimposed sanctions on Iranian oil exports, accusing Iran of targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Treasury Department has also shortened the sanctions waiver period for Iranian oil sales. Previously, Iran had been allowed to sell oil until August 21, but under the new restrictions, the deadline has been reduced to July 17, increasing pressure on Iran’s oil exports and economy.
