Karachi (HRNW) — August 24, 2026: The Sindh High Court has adjourned contempt of court proceedings against lawyer Tariq Mansoor, who is facing allegations of contempt in connection with a case involving parents of children affected by HIV.
During the hearing, Mansoor requested additional time to submit his response to the contempt notice.
The lawyer told the court that he had appeared as counsel for the parents of the affected children and was representing them in their pursuit of justice.
Justice Iqbal Kalhoro observed that the matter before the court concerned the allegation of contempt of court. The judge said the court’s mandate was not to hear matters outside the scope of the proceedings.
The Social Security counsel informed the court that the related case had already been concluded.
When the lawyer requested more time, the court observed that there was no objection to granting him additional time to respond.
The court subsequently adjourned the contempt proceedings until August 27, 2026.
Background of the Case
Parents of children affected by HIV at Welfare Hospital had approached the Sindh High Court seeking legal relief concerning their children’s treatment and the circumstances surrounding their HIV infections.
During the hearing of the petitions, a heated exchange reportedly took place between the lawyer and judges while an order was being dictated. Some people present inside the courtroom also allegedly created a disturbance.
Following the incident, the court issued a contempt notice to the lawyer.
The court has also previously ordered that CCTV footage from inside and outside the courtroom be preserved.
