Groom Rejects Dowry Worth Millions, Calls It “Father’s Hard-Earned Money”

New Dehli (HRNW) In a heart-warming incident from India, a young groom set an inspiring example by refusing a heavy dowry offered by his bride’s family—winning the admiration of everyone present.

According to Indian media, the wedding took place on November 22 in Muzaffarnagar where the 26-year-old groom firmly declined a dowry of 3.1 million Indian rupees (approximately 9.7 million Pakistani rupees). Instead, he accepted only one rupee as a traditional token.

The bride, 24, lost her father to Covid-19, and her family had prepared the large amount as part of customary rituals. During the ceremony, the money was placed in a decorated tray for the groom, following local tradition.

However, the groom surprised the gathering by respectfully refusing the amount. He stated, “I have no right over this money. It belongs to the bride’s late father and is the result of his hard work. I cannot accept it.”

His stance left the guests astonished, but deeply moved. The groom’s parents stood firmly behind his decision, while the bride’s family expressed heartfelt gratitude for his integrity and compassion.

The rest of the wedding rituals continued with joy, and the bride departed to her new home with dignity and a smile. Many attendees called the groom’s gesture a powerful message against the cultural pressure of dowry.
