Supreme Court Rejects Appeals of Chotu Gang Leader; Upholds Six-Fold Death Sentences

ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed the appeals of Ghulam Rasul, alias Chotu—the ringleader of the notorious Chotu Gang—and two other accomplices, upholding their sentences of death six times over.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Hashim Kakar, presided over the hearing. During the proceedings, the court remarked that heinous crimes committed by organized groups like the Chotu Gang cannot be compared to cases involving personal enmity.

Key details of the case presented to the court include:

  • The 2016 Standoff: In 2016, the gang kidnapped police officers and launched attacks in Rajanpur, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries among law enforcement personnel.

  • Military Intervention: According to the prosecution, the intensity of the situation necessitated the summoning of the Pakistan Army to ensure the recovery of the kidnapped officers.

  • Final Verdict: Maintaining the previous rulings of the Trial Court and the High Court, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeals filed by the primary accused against their capital punishment.
