Europe Faces Jet Fuel Crisis as Prices Hit Record High Amid Hormuz Disruption Fears

Brussels (HRNW)- Last week, the price of European jet fuel surged to an all-time high of $1,838 per tonne, compared to $831 per tonne before the conflict, raising serious concerns across the aviation sector. According to the World News Agency, the European airports association ACI Europe has sent an important letter to the European Commissioners for Energy and Tourism, warning that if the Strait of Hormuz does not reopen within the next three weeks, aircraft may face a severe fuel shortage.

The letter stated that continued disruption in oil and fuel shipments through the Strait of Hormuz would have a direct impact on airport operations and international air connectivity. It also highlighted serious concerns regarding fuel availability across European airports, warning of potential consequences for affected regions and the broader European economy.

The organization’s director-general said that if maritime traffic through the strait is not restored soon, a systemic jet fuel shortage in the European Union could become a reality. The report further noted that the Gulf region supplies nearly 50 percent of Europe’s aviation fuel imports, making the situation highly critical. As a result, many airlines have already reduced flights and increased ticket prices in anticipation of possible shortages.
