Tehran (HRNW)- The United States has carried out fresh airstrikes against Iranian targets following a sharp escalation in tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides issuing warnings of further military action.
According to the US Central Command, American forces targeted positions belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Qeshm and Bandar Abbas, claiming the strikes caused severe damage. Washington said the attacks followed alleged Iranian attempts to target commercial vessels and US personnel in the region.
Iranian state media reported explosions on Qeshm Island in the northern Strait of Hormuz, as well as in Bandar Abbas and the major port city of Chabahar on the Gulf of Oman. Initial reports did not provide details about the specific targets or the extent of casualties and property damage.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes, saying they were carried out in response to an alleged Iranian attempt to lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that Iran would face a larger and more severe response if it retaliated against the United States.
Iran’s Armed Forces Central Headquarters strongly condemned the attacks and warned Washington that continued military action would result in more serious losses for the United States.
The latest strikes come amid an ongoing exchange of attacks between the two countries, marking the first major direct confrontation between US and Iranian forces in more than a month.
