Bishkek (HRNW)- Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed several agreements and memorandums of understanding covering trade, climate change, counter-terrorism, information technology and other areas, marking a new phase of bilateral cooperation.
The agreements were signed in Bishkek in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the President of Kyrgyzstan. Speaking at a joint press conference, the Prime Minister welcomed the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan transit trade agreement and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif said declaring Lahore and Osh as twin cities would further strengthen cultural ties between the two countries. He also said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan would enhance cooperation to combat terrorism and extremism.
Both countries agreed to promote private-sector trade links, address the impacts of climate change and expand cooperation in education, science and technology, and culture.
The Prime Minister welcomed the establishment of a joint ministerial group to advance the CASA energy project, saying the initiative could significantly strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.
He said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan would work to simplify business laws and procedures with the aim of increasing bilateral trade to $200 million through stronger private-sector linkages and expanded trade opportunities.
