Iran Arrests Alleged Head of Illegal Starlink Network in Fars Province

Tehran (HRNW)- Iranian authorities have claimed to have arrested the alleged head of an organized network providing unfiltered internet through the satellite internet service ‘Starlink’. According to reports from the semi-official Mehr News Agency and the BBC, the arrest took place in Iran’s southern Fars province.

The deputy commander of the Fars police told the media that the arrested man is 37 years old and is accused of having established a vast network in various provinces of the country to sell Starlink devices and illegally provide internet access. Police raided the suspect’s hideout and seized an active Starlink device and other related equipment.

Demand for Starlink has increased in recent years due to strict restrictions and filtering on the internet in Iran, but the Iranian government has outlawed the use of the technology. Authorities say the network was bypassing government censorship, which is a violation of national security laws. Legal action has been initiated against the arrested suspect and a search is underway for other possible members of the network.
