UN Demands Immediate End to Arbitrary Detentions and Intimidation

Bissau – Guinea-Bissau – (HRNW)In the capital Bissau, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has issued a forceful appeal to Guinea-Bissau’s authorities to halt arbitrary detention practices targeting political opponents and civil society activists. Following the recent release of several opposition figures, the UN called for an unconditional end to intimidation, illegal detentions, and enforced disappearances, stressing that such abuses gravely undermine freedoms of expression, association, and peaceful assembly in the fragile democratic state.

Observers warn that unless reforms are introduced swiftly, the country could face a deeper erosion of human rights and growing instability.
