Bloomberg Report: Iranian Oil Tankers Change Course Toward Karachi Amid U.S. Maritime Restrictions

Karachi / Washington, D.C. (HRNW) – According to a report by Bloomberg, two Iranian oil tankers carrying crude oil have changed their declared destination to Karachi Port, Pakistan, following the reported commencement of new U.S. maritime restrictions targeting Iranian shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The report states that the tankers, Rani and Amil, carrying a combined cargo of approximately one million barrels of crude oil, altered their course toward Karachi on Tuesday shortly before the reported enforcement of new U.S. naval measures affecting Iranian maritime traffic.

According to vessel-tracking data cited by Bloomberg, the move has been described by analysts as an unusual development. Some observers believe the vessels may be seeking a safe location to wait near Pakistani waters while monitoring the evolving security situation in the Gulf.

Analysts quoted in the report noted that it is unlikely the crude oil will be unloaded in Pakistan, as doing so could expose Pakistan to the risk of U.S. sanctions or secondary sanctions. Instead, the vessels may remain near Pakistan’s maritime boundary or conduct ship-to-ship cargo transfers, depending on future developments.

Bloomberg also noted that similar situations have occurred in the past, when Iranian-linked tankers anchored near Karachi during previous periods of U.S. sanctions before returning to the Gulf when conditions became more favorable.

Some analysts further suggested that the vessels may be sailing closer to Pakistan’s coastline to reduce potential exposure to U.S. naval monitoring, with Karachi possibly serving only as a temporary or declared waypoint.
