Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Lash Lahore, Authorities on High Alert

Lahore (HRNW)- Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds swept across various parts of Lahore, bringing relief from the heat while prompting authorities to remain on high alert for possible urban flooding.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the city’s temperature was recorded at 28°C, with winds blowing at around 20 kilometers per hour. The department has forecast more rainfall over the next 24 hours.

Commissioner Lahore Noman Yousaf directed WASA, MCL, LDA, CBD, and RODA teams to remain in the field and ensure timely drainage of rainwater. He instructed all assistant commissioners to personally monitor drainage operations in their respective tehsils, keep major roads and underpasses clear, and ensure disposal stations in areas facing power outages are operated through generators. WASA town directors have also been directed to closely supervise pumping stations.

Meanwhile, the Motorway Police reported rainfall at several locations on the M-2 Motorway from Kot Momin to Thokar Niaz Baig, while rain continues on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway from the main toll plaza to Sambrial. Cloudy weather has also been reported on the M-3 Motorway between Faizpur and Nankana.

The Motorway Police advised motorists to drive carefully on slippery roads, reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, avoid unnecessary overtaking, speeding, and sudden braking, and ensure that headlights and windshield wipers are functioning properly. Citizens were also reminded to observe lane discipline, wear seat belts, and contact the Motorway Police Helpline 130 in case of an emergency.
