Washington (HRNW)- A new survey indicates a significant shift in American public opinion regarding Israel, with support for the Israeli people and government declining amid the ongoing war in Gaza, while overall attitudes toward Palestinians have remained relatively stable.
According to the survey, 52% of Americans now have a positive opinion of the Israeli people, compared to 67% in 2022, reflecting a notable decline in support over the past few years.
The survey also found that a majority of Americans hold unfavorable views of the Israeli government, the Palestinian Authority, and Hamas, with the sharpest increase in negative perceptions directed toward the Israeli government.
The shift is particularly pronounced among younger Americans. Among respondents under the age of 30, 58% expressed a positive opinion of Palestinians, while 32% held a positive view of Israelis.
Among young Democratic voters, 72% reported a favorable opinion of Palestinians, compared with 26% who viewed Israelis positively. The survey also found changing attitudes among young Republican voters, where support for Palestinians and Israelis has become nearly equal, unlike previous years when this group was significantly more supportive of Israel.
Analysts say the prolonged Gaza conflict, humanitarian concerns and ongoing international debate have significantly influenced public opinion in the United States, particularly among younger generations. Experts believe that if this trend continues, it could influence future US domestic politics and Middle East foreign policy.
