KARACHI (HRNW): A two-member constitutional bench of the High Court has issued decisive orders regarding the non-implementation of the mandatory job quota for persons with disabilities across all districts of Karachi. During the hearing, the court directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Karachi to complete the recruitment process for all vacant positions specifically reserved under the disabled quota within a strict timeframe of two months. The bench emphasized that every vacant post designated for this quota must be filled without exception to ensure that the legal rights of the differently-abled community are upheld.
The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Mansoor, informed the court that more than 3,000 positions remain vacant across various government departments in Karachi, despite the presence of qualified and educated candidates with disabilities who are being deprived of employment. The petition maintained that while a 5% quota is legally mandated for persons with disabilities in government services, the lack of implementation has hindered their professional inclusion. After hearing the arguments, the court disposed of the petitions with a clear mandate for the relevant authorities to take immediate action and ensure the effective fulfillment of the statutory quota.
