Tehran (HRNW)- At least 21 people have been killed and more than 140 injured in US attacks on Iran since August 30, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Tasnim reported that three Iranian Air Force pilots and six Navy personnel were among those killed. The agency said around 150 people were injured in the latest attacks, including military personnel, although it did not provide a separate figure for wounded troops.
Iranian officials said the US strikes caused significant damage to military installations and civilian areas, affecting civilians including women and children. Details regarding the names, ranks and locations of the nine military personnel reportedly killed have not yet been fully released.
Earlier, Iranian media reported that Iranian forces were killed in a US attack on Lark Island near the Strait of Hormuz. Tasnim also reported funeral prayers and burials for three personnel killed on the island.
The Associated Press, citing Iranian officials speaking on condition of anonymity, reported a higher military death toll, saying 14 Iranian soldiers and paramilitary personnel were killed and 108 people injured in the latest attacks.
Particular attention has focused on an alleged US missile strike on a wedding gathering in the Kohstak area of southern Iran. Iranian officials said several civilians, including women and children, were killed and dozens injured. US Central Command has denied deliberately targeting civilians, saying its operations were directed at Iranian military capabilities, air defenses, radars and preparations to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest escalation follows months of tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran, including military exchanges and heightened tensions around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Renewed hostilities have raised concerns that the conflict could escalate into a wider regional war.
