Illegal Portion Construction Rampant in North Nazimabad; Authorities Turn a Blind Eye

KARACHI (HRNW): The “portion mafia” has intensified its activities in North Nazimabad Block D, specifically at Plot No. A-345, where illegal construction is reportedly continuing in full swing. A residential house is being converted into multiple commercial-style residential units at an alarming pace, raising serious questions about the role of regulatory bodies.

Sources indicate that building inspectors and relevant officials are allegedly facilitating this rapid construction. Local residents claim that some officers within the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) are busy collecting “Eidi” (bribes), allowing the illegal work to accelerate while keeping the district administration in the dark.

Photos from the site show the building shrouded in green safety netting to hide the ongoing work from public view. Residents are concerned that these unregulated structures, built without proper architectural approval or structural integrity checks, pose a significant risk of collapse in the future. Furthermore, such densification is putting immense pressure on the area’s aging sewerage and electricity infrastructure.

The residents of North Nazimabad have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Central and the Director General of the SBCA to take immediate notice. They are demanding an immediate halt to the construction and strict legal action against both the builders and the complicit officials to protect the residential integrity of the neighborhood.
