Karachi (HRNW)- Fishermen at Seaview Karachi caught stingrays using nets without launching boats. Also locally known as sawfish, stingrays play an important role in the marine ecosystem and are commonly caught along Pakistan’s coastal and open-sea waters.
The fish have traditionally been used to produce fish feed for the poultry industry, while their fins have been exported in frozen form to Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia for the past 10 years. Pakistan catches an estimated 10,000 metric tons of stingrays annually, with experts reporting around 38 species commonly found along the country’s coastline.
