Karachi (HRNW)- A meeting was held in his office under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Karachi, all Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Bureau of Supply and officers of the Food Department. Assistant Commissioners participated through video link. The Deputy Commissioners apprised the meeting of the performance of their respective districts in the ongoing campaign against wholesalers. Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed gave a briefing about the performance of all districts and sub-divisions. The meeting was informed that action was taken against 131 wholesalers from July 13 to July 19, in which a fine of more than Rs. 1.1 million was collected. According to the details, a fine of Rs. 199,000 was collected from 12 wholesalers in the South District, and a fine of Rs. 337,000 was collected from 14 wholesalers in the East District. In the Central District, a fine of Rs 171,000 was imposed on 17 wholesalers, Rs 57,000 on 13 wholesalers in the West District, and Rs 200,000 was imposed on 31 wholesalers in the Malir District. In the Korangi District, a fine of Rs 200,000 was imposed on 31 wholesalers, while Rs 66,000 was imposed on 30 wholesalers in the Kemari District. According to the report, the Assistant Commissioners checked the prices at 1,514 places. The meeting reviewed the price determination of vegetables and fruits. The auction system for potatoes and onions was also reviewed. The meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the auction system for potatoes and onions. The Commissioner said that there is a need to improve the price determination system for vegetables and fruits to provide relief to the citizens. He directed the Market Committee to play its role in determining appropriate prices. He directed Deputy Commissioner East Abrar Jaffer to make concerted efforts to correct the auction system in the vegetable market with the help of the market committee. It was decided that Deputy Commissioner East will immediately convene a meeting of the market committee. Other Deputy Commissioners were also directed to play their role. It was decided that the Assistant Commissioners who are working in the committee for fixing the prices of vegetables and fruits in the vegetable market will present their analytical report to improve the auction system and make a transparent system for fixing prices. Assistant Deputy Director Sindh Food Authority Bashir Khan briefed the meeting about the details of the campaign against adulteration in food items. He informed the meeting that samples of milk and tea leaves are being collected on complaints of adulteration in milk and tea leaves. More than one hundred samples have been collected so far. The samples are being examined in the laboratory. It was decided that the Food Authority will present the report of the campaign against adulteration in the next meeting. The meeting was attended by all Deputy Commissioners, Additional Commissioner One Karachi Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Commissioner Two Asadullah Khoso, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar, Assistant Commissioner Bureau of Supply Ali Haider, Deputy Director Sindh Food Authority Bashir Khan and others.
