Ukraine Claims to Intercept Five Russian Ballistic Missiles During Attack on Kyiv

Kyiv (HRNW)- Ukraine has claimed that its air defense systems intercepted five ballistic missiles launched by Russia during a large-scale aerial attack targeting the capital, Kyiv.

According to media reports, the Ukrainian Air Force said it successfully shot down five ballistic missiles, although other missiles and drones managed to enter the capital. It marked the first time in nearly two weeks that Ukraine has reported intercepting Russian ballistic missiles, which are generally more difficult to destroy than drones or cruise missiles.

Officials believe Ukraine likely used the U.S.-made Patriot surface-to-air missile system, widely regarded as one of the most effective defense systems against ballistic missile threats.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack caused fires at two warehouses and damaged a school in the city.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that the strikes targeted military manufacturing facilities in Kyiv involved in producing long-range missiles and drones.

The Ukrainian Air Force also reported that one ballistic missile and 25 drones struck 17 different locations, while debris from intercepted aerial targets fell at 10 separate sites across the city.
