Beirut (HRNW)- Israeli media has released images showing the Israeli national flag and the flag of the Israeli army’s Golani Brigade flying over the historic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, following the announcement of an expanded military operation in the region.
According to foreign media reports, the images emerged shortly after the Israeli military announced a major operation in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army claimed it had launched a large-scale offensive in the Beaufort Ridge and Saluki Valley areas and indicated that operations would be extended to additional locations.
In a statement, the Israeli military said its forces had crossed the Litani River and were conducting operations against Hezbollah in areas north of the river. The army also released photographs of troops in the field and stated that the scope of military actions was being widened.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed that Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River. Speaking during a visit to military units on the northern border, he said that Israeli troops were carrying out operations not only in southern Lebanon but also in Beirut and the Bekaa Valley.
According to Netanyahu, the operations are part of a broader military campaign targeting Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Lebanese authorities have expressed serious concerns over the Israeli advance and ongoing attacks, warning that the situation could lead to a further escalation of regional tensions.
Beaufort Castle is regarded as one of southern Lebanon’s most significant historical landmarks and has long been associated with past conflicts and tensions between Lebanon and Israel.
