Gilgit (HRNW)- The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has released the final lists of candidates after completing scrutiny of nomination papers for reserved seats for women and technocrats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections 2026.
According to the official list issued in Gilgit, nomination papers of 36 women candidates were approved for reserved seats. These include 13 candidates from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 2 from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), 6 each from Islami Tehreek and Pakistan Muslim League, 4 from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), 3 from Iqbal Party, and one each from Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and Gilgit-Baltistan Democratic Party.
Among the approved women candidates are several prominent nominees from various parties, while a few nomination papers were rejected during the scrutiny process due to technical or eligibility reasons.
For the technocrat reserved seats, the Election Commission approved the nomination papers of 17 candidates, while 10 candidates were rejected after review. The accepted candidates include representatives from PML-N, PPP, Islami Tehreek, Stability Party, Muslim League-Q, JUI, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, and Gilgit-Baltistan Democratic Party.
Officials said the scrutiny process was completed in accordance with election laws and regulations, and the release of the final candidate lists marks another important step toward the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections. Political observers believe the competition for reserved seats is expected to remain significant as parties prepare their final electoral strategies.
