Petrol Price Hike Sparks Public Debate in Pakistan Over Regional Fuel Cost Comparison

Islamabad (HRNW)- A new debate has begun in public and political circles regarding the prices of petroleum products and their comparison with other countries in the region. Statements appearing on social media are claiming that despite war or global tensions in some countries, petrol prices have not increased significantly, while a continuous increase is being seen in Pakistan. According to these statements, the price of petrol in India remains at around Rs 95 per liter, a slight increase has been recorded in Afghanistan, while prices have also increased relatively limitedly in Bangladesh.

Based on these comparative figures, some circles say that the real problem is not only the global market or war conditions, but also government policies and priorities for providing relief to the people. According to public opinion in Pakistan, the increase in petrol prices directly affects other sectors of inflation, which makes flour, vegetables, transport and other necessities of life more expensive. Citizens say that petrol has now become a factor affecting every aspect of daily life, not just fuel.

According to the government’s stance, prices are determined by taking into account the global market, tax policy and the country’s economic conditions. However, the question is constantly being raised at the public level whether it is necessary to always put the burden of crises only on ordinary citizens or whether there should be a relief policy somewhere.

According to economists, the impact of petroleum prices on overall inflation is immediate and profound, therefore, sustainable policymaking is very important so that relief can be provided to the common citizen.
