Federal Government Considers Transferring Benazir Income Support Program Administration to Provinces

Islamabad (HRNW)- The federal government in Islamabad has started considering the issue of handing over the Benazir Income Support Program to the provinces. Talking to a private TV channel, Federal Minister Das Kohistani said that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, most of the powers have been transferred to the provinces, so the distribution of relief funds should also be through the provincial governments.

He said that some provinces have also demanded that the Benazir Income Support Program be handed over to the provinces. However, he said that the government will take any final decision in this regard only after consulting the coalition parties and other political forces. The federal minister clarified that there is no proposal to completely abolish the Benazir Income Support Program under consideration, but the aim is only to improve its administrative structure in accordance with the constitutional requirements. According to officials, the consultation process on this issue is ongoing and further progress in this regard is expected in the coming days.
