Standing Committee Unanimously Approves Child Marriage Bill in Punjab

Lahore (HRNW)- Chairperson Child Protection Bureau Punjab Sara Ahmed (Tamgha Imtiaz) attended the important meeting of the Standing Committee on Local Government, in which the Child Marriage Bill was unanimously approved after detailed deliberations. In the meeting, Sara Ahmed said that as per the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, effective steps are being taken to eliminate child marriage in the province, and this bill has already been approved by the cabinet in the form of an ordinance.

She said that child marriage has negative effects on the health, education and future of girls, therefore its elimination is inevitable. Sara Ahmed further said that this bill is an important development considering the relevant decisions and legal aspects. It was informed in the meeting that the next phase of the Child Marriage Bill will be presented in the Punjab Assembly, where a final vote will be taken on it. Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique, Secretary Local Government and other relevant officials also attended the meeting.
